Testimonials

I have worked with Glen Mortimer in drama workshops for six months. During that time I have found him to be a dedicated and exacting director with a keen eye for character. He is personable and highly approachable. His directions are specific and direct, getting the best from each actor. He is constantly aware of both the actor's and the audience’s perspective. His style and direction is thoughtful and candid without becoming personal. His knowledge of characterization and its portrayal on stage is huge and gained through personal experience, an experience which he freely shares with actors under his direction, leading to a greater understanding by the actor and an all-round better performance. His personal style is geniality without laxity, thoroughness and firmness without arrogance or high-handedness. Directions are always accompanied by explanation, enabling the actor to understand why the direction is given.

I have learned a great deal by my association with glen, and believe most actors would similarly benefit from his direction, advice and experience. A successful show requires a knowledgeable, thoughtful and competent director, Glen is all these things and I believe that any company that uses Glen to direct its productions would be doing itself a great favour.

I have been directed by Glen Mortimer in workshops for nearly a year now. In this time, every week he has been responsible for the direction of myself. When doing monologues, duologues and group work, I find him to be an exceptional director and can truly say, hand on heart, that he is actually the best director I have ever worked for. He allows an actor to show their own interpretation of the narrative, then without interfering, shows or reveals invaluable insight, tips and direction that adds or brings so much more to a performance. He puts tangible ideas into your head which gives you (the actor) a far deeper understanding of a character – any character! In my opinion, having had over twenty years of acting experience, Glen creates, as a director, the perfect balance of; allowing the actor their own creative interpretation of a character or piece of work, whilst at the same time, coaxes and teaches emotion or insight & technique into the actions or beats of the character or piece, in a truly gifted and talented innovated directional way. Therefore, it is without hesitation that I gladly recommend Glen Mortimer as a director to any actor, company or venture that he may undertake in the future. He has been a pleasure to work for and has helped me immeasurably as an actor. Please contact me if you require any further information.

I first met Glen Mortimer in February 2006 through a weekly drama workshop at a casting studios in Manchester, which he attends to voluntarily help our drama coach Lisa. Here he offers advice and tuition to those seeking to learn fundamental skills in acting and performance. As an amateur actor starting professional theatre work, I have found these workshops to be both encouraging and beneficial, and that is largely due to Glen’s feedback and constructive help. Some of the many areas, which he has helped a group that has variant levels of ability; include improvisation, stage awareness, choreography and movement. I find him to be personable with a direct approach, and he is quick to help and offer solutions in an objective manner. From the younger, less experienced members of the group, to those with more experience and seasoning, I can speak for all when I say that Glen is liked, respected and seen as a mentor figure.

In May 2006, my local drama group in Blackpool put on a production, which involved a technical fight scene with weaponry, something which we had not attempted before. On the basis of some of the fight choreography we had practised on in the workshops, I approached Glen to seek his advice on making the scene realistic and safe. Glen, as a favour and at the bequest of our cast and own director, came to Blackpool on a rehearsal night and was given the freedom to help us rework and stage the scene to give it optimum impact. As a result, the performances of this scene, involving the implementation of his professional direction and choreography, allowed us to give credence to the script, and wow audiences with an effective and polished end product.
